Have used it periodically through the years. Most significant find is two Pint Mason Jars filled with Mercury dimes which was buried in the corner of a barn. Now that I am retired, I will have time to get out more.

I'm new to the metal detecting hobby and have only gone to a few lots locally. I've found a few coins. In my part of South Texas there are a few cities that established in the late 1700's and early 1800's that I plan to detect. There are also a few areas where the war with Mexico was fought, as well as the last battle of the American Civil War and Calvary encampments during the border bandit wars. I need to research. And then there's the beach 60 miles away.

Getting close to retirement and have always loved this hobby. Travel and days off from work is no problem given enough advance notice. Have found a few silver rings and of course lots of various coins. Nothing gold yet!
Live in the Northeast Texas area. Love to read and learn about what I consider "recent" history. Mainly due to this hobby, to locate non-worked sites. Mainly enjoy dry ground hunting "Land".. Would of course try the beach, but is a long drive. Not sure about getting in water past the mid thigh level.... Seems you best to purchase diving equipment :) This is one way to exercise and doing something you enjoy at the same time!
